US Muslims Convene in DC Area to Promote Peace & Unity

CHANTILLY, Virginia— As opposed to the calls to war and discord by extremist Muslim clerics seen on front-page headlines, several thousand US Muslims will gather at the Dulles Expo Center on Labor Day Weekend for a three day Annual Convention (Aug. 30th-Sept. 2nd) to promote peace and unity. The 59th Annual Convention is sponsored by the USA Chapter of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, whose official motto is “Love for All, Hatred for None.“ Topics will include “Love of Country is Essential to Islamic Faith” and “The Importance of Unity and Divine Leadership.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has a current worldwide membership exceeding tens of millions in over 189 countries. It was founded in 1889 by his Holiness Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, who claimed to be the spiritual second advent of Christ and the Promised Reformer awaited by the Muslims. He unequivocally condemned violence and terrorism in any form and for any reason. Today the Community is headed by his Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad.

During the Convention, there will also be a blood drive and recognition of activities by the Community’s sister organization Humanity First. These include providing scholarships, computer labs, library books, and mentoring to inner city schools in Chicago and post-Katrina New Orleans. A highlight to the three day weekend gathering at the Dulles Expo Center is a special welcoming and interactive session for guests and dignitaries on Saturday (Sept. 1st) from 3-6PM. It is open to the public and all are welcome.
